Don't Feed Plastic to the Birds
Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. Did you know that plastic water and soda bottles (and its caps) floating in our oceans kill wildlife? If you do, what are you doing to help?
Lush has partnered with Surfers Against Sewage to launch a campaign cleaning up beaches across the UK. The campaign is headed by the above pictures which will start appearing in UK Lush shop windows in hopes to bring more awareness to plastic pollution and its effects on the environment.
Lush, although a cosmetics company, has started offering in-store recycling services for bottle caps which are no accepted by most recycling programs. All plastics collected at Lush are recycled into plastic pots! Here’s more from Lush’s website:
To add fuel to the fire, behind the scenes, we have been working hard on recycling our waste. One of the big issues we have found is that we cannot recycle certain items with the council, although they are recyclable! We thought this shouldn’t be, so what could we and our customers do about it?
Putting those two issues together, the number one offending item on our list is the plastic bottle cap, an easy to recycle item that has disastrous effects on the environment. We are already collecting black pots, but figured we could go further and make sure bottle tops don’t end up in the stomach of a bird – they will end up in a black pot instead! Working with our packaging manufacturers we found a way of turning TOPS into pots, and we need a lot of them! We are running a campaign to invite you and our customers to join our scheme to recycle them, and turn them into something useful – not pollution.
